About Lucky Foot
The Story
A few weeks before my wedding, I sat cross-legged on the floor of my childhood basement, surrounded by stacks of old photos. I was putting together a photobook as a gift for my parents—a way to say thank you for everything they had done to get me to this moment.
As I sorted through countless pictures, I was hit with a realization that made me pause. I had dozens of photos with my dad: camping trips, treasure hunts, candid moments on Sunday mornings. There were pictures of my siblings —laughing, causing trouble, growing up together. And of course, endless snapshots of just us kids, huddled together in awkward poses, smiling for the camera.
But photos of my mom and me? They were few and far between.
She was always there—working full-time, leading my girl scout troop, and showing up to every single soccer game. She packed our lunches, helped with homework, and made sure we felt loved every single day.
She took pictures of everything, always saying, “so I don’t forget.”
But what about her?
She was always the one behind the camera, never in front of it. She built, supported, and captured our lives so beautifully, but she had nearly erased herself from the story. It broke my heart to think that one day, when I go to show my future children these memories, it might seem like she wasn’t there at all.
I knew she was there. I could feel her in every moment, every memory. But if someone else were to look through our family’s photos, they might not see it. They might not see her. That night, I made a promise to myself:
I would help moms feel seen, feel present, and feel appreciated.
I started Lucky Foot Photography to help humble, busy moms step in front of the camera—to be present in their family’s story, not just the person capturing it. I want to take care of them the way they take care of everyone else.
Through my work, I strive to create tangible memories that families can hold onto for generations. I want children to grow up seeing their parents in their photos—smiling, laughing, and loving—so they know that they were always there. I want moms to look back at photos and remember the soft touch of their newborn's hair, the sweet sound of quiet giggles after bedtime, and the warm smell of summer nights playing tag in the backyard.
Because the truth is, moms do so much more than create memories. They deserve to live them.
The Brand
You may be asking yourself, "why Lucky Foot?" (I know, I know. Ew... feet.) But believe it or not, the Lucky Foot name was born from the symbolic nature of rabbits. Ever heard of a lucky rabbit's foot?
Spinny, my first bunny, hopped into my world when my husband (then boyfriend) embarked on his journey at the Naval Academy. Being in a fragile state, my parents finally allowed me to adopt the bunny I had been begging for since childhood.
It didn't take long to realize that unlike dogs, rabbits don't readily surrender their trust. While I adore my pup, Shady, and all of her crazy shenanigans, bunnies remind me that it requires a patient, gentle process to build a truly special connection—a process that resonates deeply with me in the business of family milestone photography.
As the world shifted with the onset of COVID, I introduced Genny to our cozy family. Like Spinny before her, she reminded me that the art of connection unfolds slowly. I still find myself struggling to build a meaningful bond with her—it's an ever-present reminder of the quiet, enduring strength found in genuine connections.
Lucky Foot isn't merely a name; it encapsulates the careful process it takes to cultivate a profound, trusting relationship with my clients. Like the slow bonding with my bunnies, I aim to create an atmosphere of trust and assurance, ensuring that you feel safe as we embark on the journey of preserving your most treasured memories.
My little family—my husband, Shady, Spinny, and Genny—stands as a testament to the fleeting nature of time. At Lucky Foot Photography, we don't just capture moments; we cradle them in companionship and the fleeting peace found in life's tiniest details.
