I invoke that rule DAILY in my business… every time I post a stupid reel, every time I ask for payment, every time I tell someone I just met about my job.

It gets easier little by little, but the fear of judgement and scrutiny really never goes away. So just do it, because in the grand scheme of things—no one will remember how silly you felt 20 years from now except for you.

Want to take your announcement photos at home but don’t know where to start? Don’t worry, I can help!

1. Find interesting light by your windows—a few shadows cast along the ground from panes or blinds are perfect!

2. Grab a blanket or duvet to use as a backdrop, and collect objects that are similar colors — books, hats, ultrasounds, pregnancy tests, etc.

3. Lay the objects so that shadows fall down to the lower corner—this means placing the window in the top right or left corner of the object.

4. Cut off the sides of the objects at the edge of the frame and shoot straight down — this will draw your eye in towards the middle

5. Set your phone to portrait mode, increase exposure, and drop aperture (f) to 2.0… snap away!

I keep forgetting to make this post…

But thank you for your votes!!! In October, I was voted into the top three for the Best of the Best Photography Businesses in the Morongo Basin by the Hi Desert Star.

My doors had been open less than a month at that point and it truly meant the world to me as I navigated the unknowns of owning a storefront, having my husband deployed, and building a business in my new community.

There’s a reason wedding videography will never take over wedding photography. Paper lasts, files die.

Print everything. Print iPhone pics taken on a random Tuesday. Print the photos of your baby sleeping peacefully at night. Print the pic of your partner across from you at the dinner table. Print the big moments and the little ones.

6. Continue to give when I can but remember that it’s okay to ask for help
